Objective

This project developed and validated compressibleCentralReactingFoam, an OpenFOAM-based solver for high-speed, compressible, multicomponent reacting gas flows.

Methodology

  • Combined density-based compressible-flow capabilities from rhoCentralFoam with reacting-flow modeling from reactingFoam.
  • Solved Favre-filtered LES governing equations.
  • Validated on shock-tube cases, 3D Ladenburg jet, and DLR scramjet.

Key Results

  • Shock-tube simulations reproduced reference profiles.
  • 3D jet matched experimental data with errors below 3%.
  • WALE produced best agreement with temperature data.

Technical Achievements

  • Built compressible reacting OpenFOAM solver.
  • Validated across 1D, 3D, and 2D configurations.
  • Integrated LES and detailed chemistry modeling.
